I've got a word for you. Bury your expectations. Of yourself and of others. I don't expect ANYTHING from anyone because humans are designed to be faulty. The best part about being faulty is, Jesus knew you were a fixer upper when He bought you!
You will find greater peace in 2025 and more personal growth when you lean into that truth. You can extract the principle here in Jeremiah 17:5 “Thus says the LORD, 'CURSED is the man who trusts in mankind And makes flesh his strength, And whose heart turns away from the LORD.'”
The scene here is like an ancient cautionary tale where the prophet Jeremiah is doing his best "don't say I didn't warn you" routine. God, tired of seeing the people of Judah trying to wing it on their own, gives them a reality check about trust and dependence.
Jeremiah 17:1-10 Overview
Background: The people of Judah were off chasing shiny idols and making alliances like they were playing a divine version of The Real Housewives. They thought they had it all figured out without needing to phone a friend (or in this case, God).
Judgment: Jeremiah steps in with a "I told you so," pointing out the mess that comes from thinking you can handle everything solo. Verses 5-6 are like a spiritual caution sign, warning about the pitfalls of trusting in human strength instead of divine guidance.
Jeremiah 17:5 Explanation
"Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind": This part is a big flashing sign saying, "Hey, humans aren't superheroes. Trusting in them like they are can backfire spectacularly."
"And makes flesh his strength": "Flesh" here is just fancy talk for our all-too-human weaknesses.
"Whose heart turns away from the LORD": The real issue is a spiritual one. Turning away from God is like cutting off your connection to the ultimate source of strength and guidance.
Application
This passage is a friendly reminder to place your trust in God rather than in those human-made solutions. It's about keeping the faith and leaning on divine wisdom, ONLY.
Amen brother! Your thoughts here are a lot of what God is leading me through right now. Thank you for sharing!
